Job Title: Head of Machine Learning, Search & Recommendations
Role Summary: Lead a multidisciplinary Data Science team that drives AI‑powered personalization, search, recommendation, and ranking systems from concept to production-scale deployment. Serve as strategic partner across Product, Engineering, and Design to align machine learning initiatives with business objectives and user experience.
Expectations: • 10+ years of progressive experience in data science, machine learning, optimisation, or causal inference, with a proven record of building and deploying production‑grade algorithms. • 3+ years of people‑management experience leading high‑performance technical teams, including mentorship and talent development. • Strong experimental design, statistical methodology, and causal inference expertise applied to high‑stakes product decisions. • Ability to navigate complex, ambiguous problems, make prioritisation trade‑offs, and deliver measurable impact. • Excellent communication and influence skills to engage technical and executive stakeholders, build consensus, and champion data‑driven decision making.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop data‑driven business insights and collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to identify opportunities, prioritise initiatives, and deliver product, growth, and optimisation value.
- Mentor, grow, and manage a high‑performing team of data scientists, ML engineers, and software engineers across personalization, search, recommendation, AI optimisation, GenAI, and ML platform pillars.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Design to integrate machine learning solutions into scalable, production‑grade systems and customer‑facing experiences.
- Champion data‑driven decision making and ensure product strategy is informed by rigorous quantitative analysis.
- Drive innovation by staying current with emerging research, technologies, and industry best practices in algorithms, optimisation, and applied machine learning.
Required Skills
- Deep expertise in machine learning, experimental design, causal inference, statistical methodologies, and algorithm development.
- Proven experience prototyping algorithms and productionizing them for real‑time systems.
- Strong analytical skills, capable of extracting user behaviour insights from large datasets.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Leadership skills: mentoring, developing talent, setting vision, and aligning teams with product goals.
Required Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (Master’s or PhD preferred but not required).
