**Job Title:**
Software Factory Administrator – SC Cleared – Outside IR35
**Role Summary:**
Responsible for creating, operating, and securing the Defence Digital Software Factory, including its toolchain (GitLab, CI/CD, containers, monitoring). Combines system administration, automation, and governance with oversight of innovation workstreams to ensure continuous delivery of secure digital capabilities.
**Expectations:**
- Manage multi‑project Software Factory environments, maintaining security, performance, and availability.
- Lead innovation initiatives, evaluating emerging tools and methods to improve efficiency.
- Serve as the primary technical and governance liaison for all Software Factory activities.
- Deliver the role remotely and on‑site (2 days per week) while staying aligned with Defence standards, accreditation, and audit requirements.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Development & Administration** – Design, implement, and mature the Software Factory and its CI/CD pipeline (GitLab, Nexus, Jenkins, etc.).
2. **Environment Management** – Configure, secure, and monitor GitLab, container platforms (Kubernetes/Red Hat OpenShift), Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, and other associated tools.
3. **Automation & Ops** – Script and automate routine tasks, manage infrastructure as code, and ensure high availability.
4. **User & Access Governance** – Handle onboarding, training, access control, and audit trails per Defence compliance.
5. **Innovation Leadership** – Own innovation work packages, evaluate new DevSecOps tools, contribute to the Software Factory roadmap, and promote best practices.
6. **Technical Support** – Act as the main contact for technical issues, troubleshooting builds, deployments, and configuration across teams.
7. **Documentation & Compliance** – Maintain up‑to‑date configuration, operational, and governance documentation; manage patching, vulnerability remediation, and accreditation processes.
8. **Stakeholder Collaboration** – Work with developers, PMs, architects, cyber security specialists, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient and compliant factory use.
**Required Skills:**
- Proficiency with GitLab (Repository, CI/CD), Nexus, Jenkins, and similar build systems.
- Strong experience managing Kubernetes/Red Hat OpenShift and containerised environments.
- Expertise in monitoring and logging (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Elastic Stack).
- Automation scripting (Bash, Python, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of DevSecOps principles, secure software delivery, and continuous integration practices.
- Knowledge of configuration management, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
- Experience with security and accreditation processes for government or defence projects.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Kubernetes Administrator, Red Hat Certified Engineer, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or equivalent) preferred.
- SC Security Clearance (current or obtainable).
