Engineering Manager – Language Clients
Role Summary
Lead a team of 10–15 engineers building and evolving ClickHouse client libraries (Go, Python, Rust, Java, etc.) and expanding the ecosystem into SDKs, integrations, and community extensions. Drive high‑performance culture, set technical direction, and own product strategy for making developer experience world‑class in the OLAP space.
Expectations
* Build and maintain a high‑bar, inclusive engineering team through hiring, coaching, and career development.
* Own product vision, roadmap, and execution for language clients, delivering measurable UX and developer‑experience milestones.
* Lead rapid, maintainable releases while sustaining open‑source collaboration and community trust.
* Represent the team internally and externally, protecting capacity and driving cross‑functional alignment with product, DevRel, and sales engineering.
Key Responsibilities
* Recruit, mentor, and grow engineers; set clear ownership and performance expectations.
* Define and implement architecture and engineering standards for client libraries.
* Translate developer feedback into prioritized roadmap items and ship high‑quality releases.
* Expand from core libraries to wider OSS ecosystem: SDKs, partner tooling, integrations, and community extensions.
* Collaborate closely with product, developer relations, and sales engineering to align initiatives and manage scope.
* Represent the company at conferences, community forums, and partner events; foster relationships with OSS communities.
Required Skills
* 3+ years engineering management experience, with proven hiring, development, and retention of talent.
* 10+ years hands‑on experience building developer‑facing tools, open‑source software, or data‑intensive systems.
* Strong architectural judgment and ability to make opinionated decisions while shipping quickly.
* Deep familiarity with open‑source collaboration, community engagement, and public technical communication.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to build psychological safety and inclusive culture.
* Product ownership mindset: set direction, prioritize, and iterate fast with customer feedback loops.
Required Education & Certifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
* Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer, Open Source Program Guide) are a plus but not mandatory.
