Job Description
**Job Title:** Head of Engineering **Role Summary:** Senior leader responsible for the overall performance, capability, compliance, and strategic direction of the engineering function. Aligns engineering delivery with business strategy, ensures safety and regulatory compliance, builds talent pipelines, and drives continuous improvement and innovation across the organization. **Expectations:** - Translate corporate strategy into a prioritized engineering plan and deliver results. - Lead and develop multi‑disciplinary engineering teams to meet commercial and growth objectives. - Ensure engineering activities are safe, compliant, and cost‑effective. - Maintain robust governance, risk, and assurance frameworks. - Foster innovation and technology adoption that supports business goals. - Represent engineering in bids, client engagements, and industry forums. **Key Responsibilities:** - Shape and execute engineering strategy as a core member of the leadership team. - Set direction, priorities, and performance standards for all engineering units. - Mentor and succession‑plan current and future engineering leaders. - Own capability strategy: skills development, recruitment, graduate/apprentice programs. - Manage engineering compliance with regulatory, QSHEW, and assurance requirements; maintain the Engineering Risk Register. - Define and continuously improve engineering processes, standards, templates, and toolsets. - Sponsor and evaluate innovation initiatives for commercial and operational value. - Provide technical leadership in bid/no‑bid decisions, proposal development, and key client relationships. **Required Skills:** - Strategic planning and execution in a regulated environment. - Leadership of large, multi‑disciplinary engineering teams. - Strong commercial acumen and business development support. - Deep knowledge of engineering governance, risk management, and assurance. - Excellent influencing and communication skills at Board and executive levels. - Capability building, talent management, and succession planning. - Continuous improvement and process optimization. - Innovation evaluation and technology stewardship. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience). - Proven senior engineering leadership experience in highly regulated sectors. - Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional recognition (desired). - Relevant industry experience (e.g., nuclear, energy, infrastructure, defence) is advantageous.
