Job Description
**Job Title:** Design Manager – Northern Ireland (UK Travel) **Role Summary:** Lead and oversee the complete design lifecycle for construction projects, ensuring design quality, buildability, and cost effectiveness. Coordinate permanent and temporary works, manage design programmes, and provide technical guidance from tender through to project delivery. **Expectations:** - Deliver high‑quality design solutions aligned with project objectives. - Manage design outputs for live projects and tender submissions. - Maintain regulatory compliance (CDM, building codes). - Influence design decisions to achieve value engineering and efficiency. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Manage permanent and temporary works designs for ongoing projects and tender submissions. 2. Collaborate with tender and project teams to align design expectations and schedules. 3. Develop and maintain design programmes, integrating them into overall project timelines. 4. Perform pre‑construction design duties in line with CDM regulations. 5. Provide expert design input for tenders and technical guidance during project stages. 6. Coordinate temporary works requirements and manage information flow between stakeholders. 7. Ensure design outputs meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards. 8. Mentor and support design staff and cross‑functional teams. **Required Skills:** - Extensive experience in design management within construction, preferably with a main contractor. - Full design lifecycle management from tender to completion. - Strong technical knowledge of construction methods, buildability, and regulatory compliance. - Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, and other design/project management tools. - Excellent organization, multitasking, and time‑management abilities. - Effective communication and stakeholder coordination. - Collaborative mindset and solution‑oriented approach. - Attention to detail and proactive problem‑solving. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management. - Chartered status (RIBA, CIOB, ICE, CIAT) or working towards accreditation is desirable. - Experience managing design outputs on projects £20 m+ and familiarity with BIM and CDM regulations.
