Job Title: Senior Engineering Manager Role Summary: Lead and grow a senior software engineering team focused on defence and security platforms. Drive technical strategy, standards, and culture while mentoring engineers, recruiting talent, and collaborating with project leaders to deliver high‑impact, high‑quality software solutions. Expectations: - 8+ years of software development with proven leadership experience. - Experience in consulting or client‑facing technical roles, ideally within defence or highly regulated sectors. - Strong technical depth in data‑intensive, scalable, and secure systems. - Familiarity with AI engineering, cloud architecture, and modern DevOps practices. - Current UK security clearance or demonstrable eligibility to obtain one. Key Responsibilities: - Lead and develop the defence software engineering team on‑site. - Define and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and development processes. - Shape technical direction for platforms and systems, staying current with emerging technologies. - Supported talent acquisition: identify, attract, and assess high‑calibre engineers. - Drive skills development, mentorship, and learning pathways; identify capability gaps. - Act as senior technical authority, guiding architecture and engineering approaches across projects. - Foster an engineering culture valuing curiosity, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement. - Collaborate with project leads and other team leaders to align engineering expertise with project needs. - Represent engineering in technical discussions, proposals, and client engagements as required. Required Skills: - Leadership and team‑building in a technical setting. - Deep software architecture and engineering knowledge. - Proficiency in cloud, AI, and DevOps practices. - Data‑intensive application experience: performance, scalability, reliability. - Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a quantitatively rigorous discipline from a leading university. - Strong alternative experience may be considered if technical confidence is demonstrable. - UK security clearance or willingness to obtain one.
