Job Description
Job Title: Non‑Destructive Testing Apprentice Role Summary: Four‑year apprenticeship in Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) focused on radiography, visual inspection and structural integrity assessment of civil and naval engineering projects. Trainees receive classroom instruction in engineering fundamentals and hands‑on training in NDT methods, culminating in qualification as an NDT Technician upon successful completion of the Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 7. Expectations: - Achieve HNC in Engineering (or equivalent SCQF Level 5) and Diploma in Engineering – Manufacturing & Fabrication (SCQF Level 7). - Pass baseline personnel security screening (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance. - Keep national academic grades of 4× grade 5 in Maths, English and two other subjects. - Demonstrate strong workplace safety orientation and ability to follow detailed procedures. - Show proactive learning, teamwork and commitment to quality and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities: - Plan and document NDT activities, including survey schedules and data recording. - Apply engineering math, physics and material science principles to interpret inspection results. - Use diagnostic methods to identify and resolve material defects and structural integrity issues. - Produce technical reports, records and drawings for internal and client stakeholders. - Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance and client teams to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards. - Maintain rigorous documentation standards, logbooks and quality controls throughout the apprenticeship.
