Job Description
**Job Title:** L4 Network Engineer Apprentice **Role Summary:** Apprentice Network Engineer responsible for supporting customer deployments, site surveys, installation and troubleshooting of networking solutions (WiFi, VOIP, CCTV, switching). Gain hands‑on experience with advanced surveying tools and achieve a Level 4 Network Engineer qualification through structured training. **Expectations:** - Complete the Level 4 Network Engineer apprenticeship standard and associated CompTIA vendor qualifications (Network+, Server+, Security+, Cloud+). - Achieve competency in troubleshooting, configuration, and site installation within a 18‑month apprenticeship. - Demonstrate progress through monthly supervisory visits, competency checks, and Endpoint Assessment. **Key Responsibilities:** - Support and troubleshoot office‑based deployments via remote access, monitor performance, manage change requests, and document changes. - Conduct on‑site surveys to gather customer requirements, draft proposals, and prepare installation briefings. - Configure networking equipment in staging environments prior to field installation. - Prepare and secure site for installation: check materials, tools, and permits; comply with health & safety (use of ladders, MEWPs). - Execute installation tasks: data cabling, termination, testing, equipment configuration, and verification of operational status. - Perform post‑installation surveys, close‑out documentation, waste recycling, and vehicle debrief. - Provide technical support to users via email, phone, or face‑to‑face, covering infrastructure, network principles, mobility, device & cloud fundamentals. **Required Skills:** - Strong technical troubleshooting and fault‑finding ability. - Proficiency with WAN/LAN technologies, switching, routing, and firewall basics. - Practical skills: use of power tools, ladders, and safety equipment. - Good communication and documentation skills. - Valid UK driving licence with road‑worthy car and insurance. **Required Education & Certifications:** - GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (passing grades). - IT‑specific qualification: A‑level or Level 3 Apprenticeship in Science, Design & Tech, Computer Science or related field. - Achievement of Level 4 Network Engineer qualification and CompTIA Network+, Server+, Security+, Cloud+ (or willingness to complete them during apprenticeship).
