**Job Title:** Data Scientist
**Role Summary:**
Join the corporate data service to drive the boroughs' data strategy, applying advanced analytics to address social care pressures, financial vulnerability, and homelessness. Create visualisations and predictive models to inform decision‑making, collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders, and champion a data‑driven culture across council services.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver high‑quality, reusable code and analytical solutions with minimal supervision.
- Communicate complex technical insights clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Continuously learn and apply emerging data science tools and techniques.
- Uphold data integrity, privacy, and ethical standards in all work.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Analyse large, complex datasets using Python, SQL, and statistical methods.
- Develop and maintain visualisations, dashboards, and predictive models to support policy and service delivery.
- Lead end‑to‑end data projects, from requirement gathering through to deployment of data products.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and senior management to translate business needs into analytical solutions.
- Promote best practices in data engineering, modelling, and governance across the organisation.
- Document code, processes, and findings to ensure reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
**Required Skills:**
- Expert proficiency in Python (pandas, scikit‑learn, NumPy, etc.) and SQL.
- Strong data visualisation skills (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, seaborn).
- Solid foundation in statistics, machine learning, and data cleaning/ preprocessing.
- Ability to write clean, efficient, and well‑documented code.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; capable of presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Proven experience delivering data‑focused projects and products independently.
- Demonstrated curiosity and commitment to continuous professional development.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field (Master’s preferred).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, AWS Certified Data Analytics, or similar) are advantageous but not mandatory.
