**Job Title:** Principal Platform Engineer
**Role Summary:**
Lead the design, construction, and maintenance of Ashby’s scalable, secure, and efficient platform infrastructure. Own end‑to‑end projects, collaborate closely with product and engineering teams, and apply Site Reliability Engineering principles to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity for a rapidly growing customer base.
**Expectations:**
- Own and deliver complex platform projects with minimal oversight.
- Balance engineering rigor with flexibility; prioritize critical reliability while enabling rapid feature rollout.
- Instill secure, repeatable practices across all infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
- Engage in proactive problem‑solving, debugging, and risk evaluation, safeguarding sensitive data.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) for scalable microservices.
- Optimize the DSL‑to‑SQL compiler and create developer tooling to improve query performance.
- Implement automated security and privacy guardrails on data handling workflows.
- Enable rapid feature delivery through canary deployments, gradual rollouts, and feature flag management.
- Define, monitor, and enforce Service Level Objectives (SLOs) with corresponding Service Level Indicators (SLIs).
- Ensure external communications are resilient via retries and circuit‑breakers.
- Build and support event‑driven architecture and data warehouse ingestion pipelines.
- Provide monitoring, logging, and alerting to detect and resolve infra incidents quickly.
- Mentor, review, and guide engineering peers on platform best practices and reliability standards.
**Required Skills:**
- Strong coding proficiency (Python, Go, Java, or equivalent).
- Deep experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Expertise in IaC tools (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, etc.).
- Proven SRE capabilities: canary releases, feature flags, circuit breakers, SLO/SLI implementation.
- Advanced monitoring, logging, and incident response (Datadog, Prometheus, ELK, Grafana, etc.).
- Familiarity with event‑driven architectures and data lake/warehouse technologies (Kafka, Snowflake, BigQuery).
- Strong security mindset; knowledge of privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
- Excellent debugging, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Relevant certifications are a plus: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Cloud Architect, Terraform Associate, or equivalent.
