**Job Title**
Systems Engineer – Senior / Principal
**Role Summary**
Responsible for bridging theoretical concepts with practical implementation across the full Systems “V” life cycle within the defense sector. Applies systems engineering principles to design, prototype, validate and integrate complex subsystems (electro‑optical, RF, sensor fusion, AI/ML) for naval, land and air platforms. Leads multidisciplinary teams, mentors junior engineers and ensures alignment with stakeholder requirements and security regulations.
**Expectations**
- Deliver end‑to‑end systems engineering solutions that meet performance, reliability and cost objectives.
- Act as a technical lead and mentor across multiple projects.
- Operate with a rigorous security clearance (BPSS, with potential SC or DV).
- Demonstrate strong learning agility and adaptability to evolving technologies.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Conduct early concept studies and define system requirements with stakeholders.
- Design, develop and prototype subsystems in Simulink and MATLAB, including algorithms, data‑fusion, and real‑time simulation.
- Integrate new functionality into existing sub‑systems and prototype detailed system models for performance analysis.
- Investigate anomalies during integration, trials and deployment, utilizing real‑world data.
- Lead verification, validation and performance modelling activities across the Systems V‑Diagram.
- Design and prototype software to counter platform threats (e.g., drones, projectiles) autonomously.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering knowledge transfer and skill development.
**Required Skills**
- Systems engineering expertise with a strong applied engineering background.
- Proficiency in Simulink, MATLAB, and algorithm design.
- Knowledge of digital signal processing, RF systems, electro‑optical/infrared subsystems.
- Experience in computer‑vision, image processing (segmentation, clustering), multi‑sensor fusion, and tracking.
- Ability to model and simulate real‑time data, and apply AI/ML for data analysis.
- Understanding of systems architecture, performance modeling, synthetic environments, and system‑of‑systems concepts.
- Familiarity with verification & validation processes and the Systems V Diagram.
- Strong analytical, problem‑definition and communication skills.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Honours degree (or equivalent) in science or engineering (preferably electronics, electrical, aerospace, or related field).
- UK baseline security clearance (BPSS), with potential for SC or DV clearance.
- Continuous learning mindset; relevant training in systems engineering, simulation tools, and emerging defense technologies encouraged.
