Job Description
Job Title: Data Protection Officer (DPO) Role Summary: Lead the organization’s data privacy strategy, ensuring compliance with GDPR, other global data protection laws, and AI privacy requirements. Collaborate across product, engineering, sales, and security teams to embed privacy into system design and operations. Expections: - Full ownership of privacy governance and product privacy integration. - Daily engagement with enterprise clients and regulatory bodies. - High‑level communication of complex privacy concepts to executives. - Fluent in English; working knowledge of German required. Key Responsibilities: - Implement Privacy by Design: advise Product Team on data retention, international transfers, telecommunications, AI privacy, legal basis, UX dark patterns, and Terms of Service. - Conduct DPIAs and PIAs; review with Product & Engineering. - Manage Data Subject Rights (DSRs) requests and ticketing, including escalation/crisis response. - Co‑manage data breach process with the CISO. - Maintain the Register of Processing Activities (RoPA) during M&A. - Oversee cookie management on website and cloud applications. - Draft and update privacy & cookie notices, internal policies, and vendor acquisition privacy criteria. - Serve as main point of contact for data protection authorities. - Support privacy training and awareness initiatives. - Contribute to ISO and SOC certification maintenance. Required Skills: - In‑depth knowledge of GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, and EU data protection guidelines. - Awareness of non‑EU privacy laws (US, Canada, China, Australia, etc.). - Understanding of AI technology and its privacy implications. - Strong communication, summarization, and stakeholder management. - Ability to translate legal requirements into actionable product guidance. - Experience in regulated environments, cross‑functional collaboration, and vendor risk assessment. Required Education & Certifications: - Advanced degree or equivalent in law, information security, or related field. - Preferable certification: CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, or similar. - Fluency in English and German.
