Job Description
**Job Title:** Young Professional – Technical Support (Americas) **Role Summary:** A one-year, renewable position within the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar) providing technical and policy support for Ramsar site designation, conservation, and national implementation. The role involves data management, stakeholder engagement, policy drafting, project monitoring, and administrative tasks, while fostering early‑career international experience. **Expectations:** - Age **≤35** years. - One‑year contract, renewable once (max 2 years total). - Deliver timely, accurate assistance to Contracting Parties and partners. - Demonstrate adaptability to small‑team, multi‑disciplinary, and cross‑border work. - Meet grant reporting and project oversight requirements. **Key Responsibilities:** - Analyse Ramsar Information Sheets and prepare documentation for Ramsar Site designations and updates. - Support Contracting Parties in entering data into RSIS database for new designations and updates. - Advise on conservation and sustainable use actions, including management of adverse ecological changes (Art 3.2). - Promote and apply technical guidelines and management tools for Ramsar Sites. - Maintain routine communication with Contracting Parties, NGOs, and international partners. - Assist in planning and supporting regional meetings, Standing Committee meetings, and triennial Conferences of the Contracting Parties. - Compile, analyse, and draft policy‑related information aligned with the Secretariat’s Workplan, Strategic Plan 2025‑2034, and STRP decisions. - Monitor project implementation, ensuring compliance with grant and reporting requirements. - Perform routine administrative duties: correspondence, database updates, and basic translation tasks. **Required Skills:** - Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication. - Proficiency in data entry and database management (RSIS preferred). - Knowledge of international environmental law and multilateral agreements (beneficial). - Ability to coordinate across diverse stakeholders and manage multiple tasks. - Basic project management and monitoring skills. - Adaptability to fast‑paced, evolving environments. - Proficiency in English (additional languages an asset). **Required Education & Certifications:** - Minimum **Bachelor’s degree** in environmental science, international relations, or a related field. - 6 months to 3 years of relevant professional experience. - No specific certifications required, though familiarity with Ramsar or related conservation frameworks is advantageous.
