Job Description
**Job title:** Information Governance Specialist – Team Leader **Role Summary:** Lead a dedicated Information Governance team within a digital healthcare organisation. Ensure compliance with data protection legislation, oversee the Data Security and Protection Toolkit submission, guide policy development, manage risk assessments, and foster a culture of data protection through training and stakeholder engagement. **Expactations:** - Direct and manage IG Officers to meet performance and audit targets. - Produce and maintain the Information Asset Register and Records of Processing Activities. - Deliver the organisation’s annual Data Security and Protection Toolkit submission. - Conduct audits, site visits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate IG risks. - Develop and deliver IG training, awareness programmes, and briefing materials. - Liaise with national regulators (ICO, NHS England) and external providers on IG matters. - Support Electronic Patient Record initiatives and related projects. **Key Responsibilities:** - Supervise IG Officers, allocating tasks, setting priorities, and reviewing outcomes. - Provide expert advice on GDPR, FOI, confidentiality, and data security to cross‑functional teams. - Monitor compliance through regular audits and risk assessments, reporting findings to senior leadership. - Lead the creation and delivery of IG training and awareness programmes for staff. - Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including regulators and third‑party vendors. - Maintain and update the Information Asset Register and processing activity documentation. **Required Skills:** - Deep knowledge of GDPR, FOI, NHS data protection regulations, and confidentiality best practices. - Experience in audit design, risk assessment, and compliance monitoring. - Strong project management and organisational abilities. - Excellent written and verbal communication, with the capacity to train and influence stakeholders. - Ability to analyse complex information and provide clear, actionable guidance. - Team leadership and people management skills. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Licence in a relevant field (e.g., Information Management, Law, Healthcare Administration) or equivalent experience. - Professional certification in Information Governance such as CIPP/E, CIPP/G, or equivalent recognised credentials. ---
