Digital Health and Care Wales is a national organisation delivering the digital health services needed for modern patient care in Wales.

As a public service organisation working in partnership with NHS Wales organisations, we supply over 70 software services to users across NHS Wales and to other parts of the United Kingdom. We support doctors, nurses and other clinical professionals, helping them provide specialist care to patients in hospitals, GP practices and across the community.

Our aim is that every task care professionals undertake is supported digitally, that records are created, held and accessed electronically and that all such services work seamlessly and commonly across organisations and sectors.

Job Description
**Job Title:** Lead DevOps Engineer **Role Summary:** Technical leader responsible for defining and executing DevOps strategy across product lines. Guides engineering teams in building secure, reliable, and scalable digital services through CI/CD, cloud-native architectures, automation, and DevSecOps practices. Provides mentorship, ensures compliance with security standards, and collaborates with multidisciplinary stakeholders. **Expectations:** - Shape and champion DevOps culture and best practices. - Deliver high‑quality, secure, and scalable solutions on time. - Mentor and up‑skill team members in modern tooling and processes. - Align technical decisions with organizational security and regulatory requirements. **Key Responsibilities:** - Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) across cloud environments. - Lead development of cloud‑native integration solutions using Python, microservices, and event‑driven patterns. - Define architecture, standards, and governance for healthcare data transformation and validation systems. - Drive adoption of agile, DevSecOps, and continuous improvement methodologies. - Conduct root‑cause analysis, troubleshoot complex incidents, and balance priorities. - Facilitate knowledge sharing, technical workshops, and team capability building. - Engage with stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical designs. - Ensure compliance with information security policies and NHS Wales data handling standards. **Required Skills:** - Expertise in CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions). - Strong experience with IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Pulumi). - Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud‑native design. - Advanced scripting/programming in Python; understanding of microservices and event‑driven architectures. - Deep knowledge of DevSecOps, automated testing, and quality assurance practices. - Solid grasp of networking, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and monitoring/logging solutions. - Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills; ability to coach and lead teams. - Desirable: Ability to speak Welsh. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). - Professional certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Google Professional DevOps Engineer, or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) preferred. - Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM) advantageous.
