Job Title: Senior EC&I Engineer
Role Summary: Lead technical authority for Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) system design, ensuring safety, compliance, and project delivery across regulated engineering projects.
Expectations: Provide technical leadership, mentor design engineers, act as primary client interface, uphold quality and safety standards, and maintain records for regulatory scrutiny.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development of EC&I design solutions: concept designs, basis of design documents, system architectures, and equipment selection.
- Assess technical options using engineering judgment to balance safety, compliance, cost, obsolescence, and through‑life considerations.
- Resolve complex, cross‑disciplinary technical issues and provide clear recommendations.
- Mentor and review work of EC&I Design Engineers, promote best practices and consistent use of standards.
- Serve as technical point of contact with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors; participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and site visits.
- Ensure all EC&I designs comply with company procedures, ISO standards, and relevant legislation.
- Embed health, safety, and environmental considerations throughout design activities.
- Maintain accurate, auditable design records for regulatory scrutiny and project handover.
Required Skills
- Advanced EC&I system design expertise: architecture development, equipment specification, design justification.
- Proficiency in functional safety standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61513) and cyber security (ISO 27001, IEC 62443).
- Knowledge of PLC implementation, instrumentation, control panel design, MCC/switchgear.
- Experience with obsolescence management, system maintainability, and lifecycle considerations.
- Strong analytical, judgment, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent communication, client‑facing, and mentoring skills.
Required Education & Certifications
- HND or Degree in Electrical, Control, Instrumentation, or related engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of EC&I engineering experience in regulated or industrial environments (e.g., nuclear, oil & gas, energy, manufacturing).
- Chartered Engineer status preferred; candidates actively pursuing chartership through a recognised institution (e.g., IET).
