Overview
The Cloud Engineer will support the hybrid infrastructure that powers Planet Fitness, working across both cloud platforms and traditional IT systems. This role will be hands-on and focused on keeping environments running smoothly. Focus on maintaining AWS and Azure resources, administering servers and storage, and troubleshooting network and security issues. The Cloud Engineer will collaborate with senior engineers, internal teams, and vendors to resolve incidents, apply updates, improve automation and reliability. This position will play a critical role in day-to-day operations of both cloud and physical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Provide hands-on support for infrastructure operations including servers (Windows & Linux), SAN, virtualization (VMware), Wi-Fi, switches, firewalls, NAC, and endpoints
Support and maintain cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, Cloudflare, and other SaaS applications
Assist in the governance/administration of Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Copilot, and retention policies
Support identity and access management tools such as Active Directory, DNS, SSO, and certificates
Monitor system and infrastructure alerts, responding quickly to resolve issues to minimize downtime
Participate in off-hours support rotation to assist with critical incidents or outages
Act as a Tier 2 escalation point for advanced support issues
Assist with patching and remediation of zero-day vulnerabilities across supported systems
Contribute to system documentation efforts, ensuring information is accurate and accessible
Assist in maintaining secure and reliable infrastructure across both cloud and on-prem environments
Support existing Terraform workflows for infrastructure management. (updating modules, troubleshooting errors)
Provide operational support for Kubernetes environments
Assist with CI/CD pipeline operations and automation tasks under guidance of our senior engineers
Use GitHub for version control and collaboration on infrastructure scripts and configuration files
Partner with application and data teams to ensure infrastructure supports their environment and deployments
Coordinate with external vendors and partners to resolve technical issues and deliver infrastructure projects on time
Work with vendors and internal teams to help troubleshoot issues and support infrastructure initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in CIS, Engineering, or related field or 3-5 years of experience in cloud, IT infrastructure, or system engineering roles
Solid background in VMware, storage (SAN), networking (VLANs, firewalls, routing)
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure/Entra
Exposure to infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (Terraform preferred); ability to update and troubleshoot existing code
Experience assisting with containerized environments and supporting Kubernetes clusters (EKS a plus)
Familiarity with CI/CD concepts; experience assisting with pipelines
Basic proficiency with GitHub for version control and collaboration on infrastructure scripts/configuration
Strong working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, and public/private certificates
Experience administering Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, One
