Job Specifications

AWS DevOps Engineer | Hybrid | Oxfordshire

Do you thrive in fast-moving environments where DevOps and cloud come together?

Ready to take ownership of AWS infrastructure while collaborating closely with security and development teams?

Want to grow into a leadership role without waiting years for the opportunity?

Our client is looking for an experienced AWS DevOps Engineer to join their innovative infrastructure and security function. Based in Oxfordshire with hybrid working, with 1 or 2 days a week in the office - this role blends hands-on cloud engineering with operational leadership, offering both responsibility and autonomy.

You'll work alongside the Head of Infrastructure and Security and be trusted to lead initiatives, support team operations, and drive collaboration across technical and non-technical teams.

Why This Role is Great

Build and Scale Cloud Environments - Design and manage scalable and secure cloud infrastructure using AWS or similar platforms such as Azure or Google Cloud
Drive Infrastructure as Code - Use tools like Terraform, Pulumi or AWS CloudFormation to build reusable, automated infrastructure
Own the CI/CD Workflow - Lead the setup and optimisation of CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar
Shape Container Management - Deploy and support containerised applications using Kubernetes, ECS, AKS, or similar orchestration systems
Boost Observability - Implement logging and monitoring with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, ELK Stack, or similar platforms
Champion Security in DevOps - Embed secure practices and controls within infrastructure and deployment processes including IAM, secrets management, and compliance documentation
Contribute to Internal IT Operations - Oversee endpoint provisioning, mobile device management (MDM), and secure access controls
Step Into Leadership - Support the Head of Infrastructure and Security by mentoring others, participating in planning, and stepping in during their absence

About You

This role is ideal for a DevOps or Cloud Engineer ready to take the next step in ownership and influence. You enjoy building resilient infrastructure, improving deployment pipelines, and enhancing security in cloud environments.

You'll gain exposure to a range of technologies and platforms including:

Major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
Infrastructure as Code tools including Terraform, Pulumi, and CloudFormation
CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI, or others
Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms
Monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or ELK
DevSecOps practices including policy-as-code, automated compliance, and secure CI/CD
MDM solutions like Intune, Jamf, Kandji, or equivalent

You'll also be part of a technical guild, share ideas with peers, and contribute to architectural decisions.

Your Wishlist of Skills and Experience

Our client values transferable skills and welcomes candidates with related experience. The ideal person may have experience with:

Building and supporting cloud-native infrastructure on AWS or a similar platform
Writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code
Managing container platforms and resolving issues related to networking, storage, and scaling
Designing or maintaining CI/CD pipelines
Implementing monitoring and centralised logging systems for alerting and troubleshooting
Supporting internal IT operations including endpoint management and access control
Participating in incident response and post-incident reviews
Applying knowledge of security frameworks or ITIL-based operations
Coaching or mentoring junior engineers
Bonus experience includes scripting or automation in languages like Python or Bash, and working with databases such as PostgreSQL.

Why Join

A collaborative, supportive environment where engineers are trusted and empowered
Hybrid working with flexibility, based in Oxfordshire
The opportunity to shape infrastructure strategy and influence technical direction
A pathway into leadership and greater responsibility
Broad exposure to modern tooling, cloud platforms, and cross-functional projects
