Overview
We're looking for an experienced Data Architect to join a high-profile digital transformation programme. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing modern data platforms on AWS and/or Azure, ensuring data is managed, modelled, and governed effectively to support business and analytical needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on architect with strong cloud data experience, who can shape architecture, guide engineering teams, and work closely with stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Define and own the data architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise and solution architecture principles.
Design end-to-end cloud data platforms, including data ingestion, storage, transformation, and consumption layers.
Implement data modelling, metadata management, and governance frameworks to ensure data quality and consistency.
Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions.
Provide technical leadership and direction to data engineers, analysts, and developers.
Establish and enforce best practices for data security, lineage, and compliance (eg, GDPR).
Conduct architecture reviews, PoCs, and performance optimisation of data pipelines and models.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Data Architect or Senior Data Engineer with architecture responsibilities.
Strong expertise in cloud platforms - AWS (Redshift, Glue, S3, Lake Formation) and/or Azure (Synapse, Data Factory, Data Lake, Purview).
Experience designing and implementing data lakes, data warehouses, and Real Time streaming solutions.
Proficiency with data modelling tools and methodologies (eg, dimensional modelling, Data Vault, ER modelling).
Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT frameworks and orchestration tools.
Solid understanding of data governance, cataloguing, and lineage concepts.
Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices for data platform deployment.
Strong SQL and Python skills (PySpark or similar frameworks beneficial).
Desirable Skills
Experience in hybrid or multi-cloud data environments.
Knowledge of event-driven or microservices-based architectures.
Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or other modern BI tools.
Exposure to machine learning or advanced analytics data pipelines.
Previous experience in public sector, financial services, or large enterprise data transformation programmes.
