Job Title: AI & ML Data Engineer

Location: Brussels, Belgium (2-3 days onsite per week, remainder remote)

Duration: 6 months (with possible extension)

Languages: English (C2)

EU Citizenship: Required

Overview:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced AI & ML Data Engineer to join our advanced analytics team at SNCB. In this role, you will help build robust data science platforms, design complex data pipelines, and operationalize machine learning models--including Large Language Models (LLMs)

You will work closely with data scientists, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders to deliver strategic and operational analytics use cases that directly improve railway services.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the infrastructure team to set up, maintain, and scale data science platforms on Azure.
Design and implement complex data ingestion pipelines from diverse sources.
Operationalize machine learning models and put LLMs into production.
Support strategic and operational use cases in areas such as punctuality, stations, HR, and security.
Work with data governance, security, and performance teams to ensure compliance and quality.
Actively contribute to a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing team culture.

What We're Looking For

3+ years of experience in data engineering and machine learning operations (MLOps).
Proven track record of setting up data science platforms in large organizations (>1,000 employees).
Strong experience with cloud platforms for advanced analytics, preferably Azure.
Proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL, demonstrated through multiple projects.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar).
Experience maintaining large-scale data pipelines and operationalizing AI/ML models.
Excellent communication skills in English (C2), both written and spoken.

Nice to Have

Experience with railway, transport, or public infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with advanced analytics platforms and Gen AI use cases.
