The Advanced Analytics team is responsible for the analysis of structured and unstructured data in order to generate predictions, discover insights, or make recommendations that can be used by the Business Areas, applying AI/ GenAI techniques. In addition, the team is committed to the principles of Responsible AI. By embedding these principles into its practices, the team fosters trust and drives innovation responsibly.

As an intern of the Advanced Analytics team, you will work on AI projects performing some of the following tasks:

Understand business needs: Work on understanding the business needs and translating them into actionable requirements.
Data exploration: Generate datasets with SQL/Spark queries that will be analyzed and whose results will be reported and translated for non-technical audiences, helping the business make data-driven decisions.
Model development: Train and validate Machine Learning models, interpreting their results.
Impact Measurement: Evaluate the effectiveness of analytical solutions by measuring project outcomes, validating statistical significance, and ensuring results support business decision-making.
Communication: Generate insightful presentations based on the data analysis results.
Code enhancement: Modify existing Python/SQL code to enhance existing data products.
Responsible AI support: Support the Advanced Analytics team in embedding Responsible AI principles into the development and deployment of machine learning and data-driven solutions.

Department-specific responsibilities, project description, deliverables, etc.:

Advanced Analytics works in a transversal way for all the company's business areas developing and implementing Artificial Intelligence models. All the models are developed in AWS, using Python, SQL, Spark...

The deployment is also done in AWS using a Machine Learning Operations module. Once the models are deployed, these are monitored ensuring their accuracy endures over time.

The models depend on the business requirement, for instance, Advanced Analytics has developed:

An Auto Fraud model, which predicts if an Auto claim can be fraudulent at the time it is recorded in the system. For this purpose, both Machine Learning and Graph analytics are applied to claims and policy data. With the graph analytics, the relationship among the claim, the insured, their policy, previous fraudulent claims, ... are detected. Later, the Machine Learning model calculates the probability of fraud, which is reviewed by the Claims team. The Claims team finally makes the decision about the claim.
A Policy Life Expectancy model, which predicts the number of months that a policy will stay with MAPFRE. This is a relevant model, since usually the longer the policy life, the more profitable. In this case, Advanced Analytics developed a survival model applying Machine Learning using policy data and policy tenure. This lets the business make better underwriting decisions.
