Lead Drupal Developer (Performance & Optimization)

Future-Able is seeking a Lead Drupal Developer to support a high-impact website optimization sprint focused on site stability, caching, schema, performance tuning, site speed, SEO health, and technical scalability.
This is a senior, hands-on development role - ideal for someone who loves improving performance through code, solving complex technical challenges, and ensuring a secure, scalable, and high-performing Drupal environment.
The platform you'll be working on supports a global humanitarian organization, and your technical improvements will directly help advance fundraising, awareness, and impact at scale.
What You'll Do
Lead Drupal optimization efforts focused on site speed, stability, caching, and performance tuning for a high-visibility nonprofit website supporting global fundraising and engagement.
Implement advanced caching and optimization strategies.
Ensure schema accuracy and SEO best practices (metadata, redirects, structured data, accessibility fixes).
Manage deployments and version control, maintaining a reliable, documented, and scalable process.
Code and ship fixes directly - this is a hands-on role (expect 50%+ of time in code).
Validate CMS configurations, hosting, and integrations to improve speed, uptime, and security.
Optimize front-end experience for layout, navigation, and mobile responsiveness.
Conduct QA and performance testing before deployments, documenting risks and dependencies.
Support business-as-usual (BAU) site maintenance alongside performance remediation work.
Collaborate cross-functionally with digital, analytics, and creative teams to ensure cohesive execution and measurable impact.

Who You Are
Experienced Drupal 9/10 developer or engineer with deep back-end and performance optimization skills.
Expert in site speed tuning, schema, caching layers, and performance diagnostics.
Proficient in PHP, HTML/CSS/JS, Git, and modern deployment workflows.
Hands-on problem solver who can debug, document, and deliver reliable fixes quickly.
Comfortable collaborating under a project lead and working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders.
Based in the U.S. (preferred) with availability for EST hours (20-25 hrs/week).
