Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Scalability

Design and build highly scalable backend systems that handle millions of concurrent IoT device connections
Architect data pipelines that process massive streams of location, temperature, and sensor data in real-time
Develop robust APIs that power both our customer platform and third-party integrations
Ensure our infrastructure can scale seamlessly from startup to enterprise-level traffic

Mission-Critical Reliability

Build fault-tolerant systems with comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and automated recovery
Implement security best practices for handling sensitive logistics and tracking data
Design disaster recovery and business continuity solutions for 24/7 global operations
Optimize system performance to handle peak loads during high-traffic periods (think Black Friday logistics!)

DevOps & Platform Excellence

Lead infrastructure-as-code initiatives using Terraform and CloudFormation
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that enable our team to deploy confidently multiple times per day
Implement comprehensive observability across our entire technology stack
Drive initiatives to improve developer productivity and system reliability

Innovation & Technical Leadership

Research and implement cutting-edge technologies for IoT data processing and real-time analytics
Mentor team members on platform engineering best practices and system design
Collaborate with the Product Engineering team to ensure seamless integration between platform and customer features
Contribute to technical architecture decisions that will shape our platform for years to come

Experience Required

Platform Engineering Expertise

Backend Mastery: Advanced TypeScript/Node.js/Python skills with deep understanding of scalable system design
Cloud Architecture: Extensive AWS experience, particularly with serverless, containerization, and managed services
Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, and automated infrastructure management
Data Systems: Experience with high-throughput data processing, real-time analytics, and time-series databases

DevOps & Reliability Engineering

Proven track record building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in production environments
Deep understanding of monitoring, logging, and observability tools and practices
Experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architectures
Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-native applications

Scale & Performance Focus

Experience building systems that handle millions of requests/events per day
Understanding of distributed systems principles, caching strategies, and performance optimization
Background in IoT platforms, real-time data processing, or high-scale consumer applications (bonus!)
Experience with database design and optimization for both relational and NoSQL systems

Leadership & Collaboration

Strong mentoring abilities and passion for elevating team technical standards
Excellent communication skills for working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience working in fast-paced startup environments where you can drive significant technical decisions
Track record of improving engineering processes and development practices
