Freelance Data Engineer / PostgreSQL Performance Specialist (Remote, 1-Month Contract)

A forward-thinking tech company is seeking an experienced Data Engineer / PostgreSQL Performance Specialist to optimise and scale their reporting systems. This is a short-term, high-impact contract suited to someone who thrives on technical challenges and enjoys working autonomously in a remote, flexible environment.

The Opportunity

You’ll play a crucial role in enhancing performance and efficiency across the organisation’s data reporting infrastructure. Your expertise will directly influence how data is modelled, accessed, and analysed—making it faster, more reliable, and easier to use at scale.

What You’ll Bring

Deep hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL (query tuning, indexing, materialised views, partitioning).
Experience designing data models and analytics/reporting pipelines.
Strong understanding of self-service BI/reporting systems and how to maintain high performance at scale.
A broad perspective on data platforms (databases, warehouses, caching layers) and when to leverage each.
Familiarity with Node.js web applications.

Nice to Have

Experience with modern data warehouses such as BigQuery, Redshift, or Snowflake.
Exposure to BI tools like Looker, Metabase, Cube.js, or Superset.
Background in SaaS or other data-heavy environments.

The Engagement

Duration: Approximately 1 month.
Location: Fully remote / flexible.
Focus: Improving performance and advising on the best long-term data strategy.
