About Quobly

Drawing upon over two decades of pioneering research from CEA and CNRS, Quobly is helping build a quantum-enabled future by developing universal quantum processors that have the potential to solve currently intractable problems in health, energy, mobility, and more.

At Quobly, we believe that professionalism, trust, teamwork, and an environment that encourages all employees to exceed their personal best are fundamental to our collective success. We also believe that fun and celebration are an essential part of any workplace.

Context

Quobly is offering you an internship as Experimental automation of silicon spin qubits Engineer. The core of this work will be to understand the tuning process of silicon quantum dots and to develop machine learning (ML) algorithms to automate parts of this process. This problem has two main parts:

First, data collected from different measurement stations will be labelled, and a method will be developed to replicate the images obtained from measurements.
Second, a ML method will be implemented to validate the generated images, and another ML model will be developed to make predictions based on the generated and/or measured images.

Depending on the progress of the project, an initial exploration into approximating the cost function using neural networks will also be carried out. The tools and methods developed during this internship will contribute to the overall automation pipeline.

Possibility to pursue with a CIFRE PhD position after the internship.

Key Responsibilities

Technical challenges:

You will discover that Spin-based semiconductor qubits promise to be highly scalable, and a lot of effort has been made to use this platform. However, this system requires a series of calibrations that must be both reliable and very fast.
You will participate to develop calibration algorithms that need to be agnostic to the wafer design or the fridge in which they are embedded.
You will participate to the calibration challenge that are ML models, which can be trained on different datasets using either experimental datum.
You will participate to use neural networks to approximate the cost function for reinforcement learning (RL), which is a powerful technique when the cost function is expensive to evaluate, highly variable, or very noisy—typical conditions we encounter when evaluating a cost function on our systems.

Nice to have:

You are studying for a master’s degree in applied physics or computational mathematics.
You want to acquire or develop understanding of silicon quantum dot devices and the process of tuning them.
You want to acquire or develop understanding of mathematical optimization of algorithms.
You want to acquire or develop understanding of Labelling of data and training of diverse ML models.
You want to acquire or develop software development skills.

Working at Quobly also means:
