Job Specifications

Cloud Architect (GCP)required to work with a government department. This is a 12 month contract, paying up to £900 per day, inside IR35, remote working (offices in London and Glasgow)
Active SC clearance is a minimum requirement prior to commencing this assignment. DV clearance is desirable.
Summary
As a Cloud Architect with a strong background in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising cloud infrastructure solutions in line with the department's digital transformation initiatives. You will have deep technical expertise in GCP, strong architectural skills, and experience working in highly regulated environments.
This is an exciting opportunity to influence the cloud strategy of a major government department and collaborating with cross-functional teams to build scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver high-level cloud architecture solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring alignment with business requirements, security standards, and best practices.
Lead the creation of technical architectures for large-scale cloud-based solutions, from infrastructure design to application deployment.
Support the migration of on-premises applications and services to GCP, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance post-migration.
Implement cost-optimisation strategies, ensuring cloud resources are efficiently provisioned and within budget.
Ensure all cloud solutions are designed and implemented in compliance with government security policies, industry standards, and data privacy regulations.
Work closely with development teams, infrastructure engineers, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions with existing systems and services.
Develop automated infrastructure-as-code solutions using tools like Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager, or Ansible. Promote best practices in cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, and DevOps.
Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, implementation guides, and operational procedures.
Engage with senior stakeholders and project managers to provide architectural guidance and support in decision-making.
Stay current with new GCP features and cloud technologies, evaluating their relevance and potential benefits to the department.
Essential Experience Required
Significant experience as a Cloud Architect with a focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect certification (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager, or Ansible.
Strong understanding of cloud security principles, including encryption, IAM, network security, and secure design patterns.
Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices for cloud-based development and deployment.
Familiarity with containerisation technologies (eg, Kubernetes, Docker), and serverless architectures.
Proven experience in cloud migration projects and performance optimisation.
Experience working within a regulated, public-sector environment is desirable, with knowledge of government security policies, data privacy regulations, and compliance standards.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide scalable solutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
