About The Role

For informal enquiries, please contact Stephen Roper (Director of Enterprise Research Centre) at stephen.roper@wbs.ac.uk.

This Assistant Professor will participate in the leadership of the Enterprise Research Centre.

While contributing actively to all aspects of research projects - including leading proposals, dataset maintenance and development, econometric estimation, and co-authoring and presenting conference and academic papers – the post holder will be expected to take a lead role in managing some projects and the related staff and resources.

The post holder will also be expected to contribute actively to the impact strategy and wider dissemination of research results to stakeholders and policymakers. Mentoring for the post-holder will be provided by the ERC leadership team.

About You

The post holder should ideally have a PhD in economics, business studies or a related quantitative social science discipline. They should have demonstrable experience of quantitative methods and their application to the areas of entrepreneurship and small business.

Experience of working with large business data sets is essential. Knowledge of panel data is highly desirable, as is a working knowledge of Stata. Ideally, the post holder will have a strong interest in the analysis of business survey or administrative data and be familiar with the literature on entrepreneurship and small business.

The post requires strong analytical skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex information orally and in writing to diverse audiences including those non-technical audiences outside academia (policy and practitioner). A track record of user engagement would be highly desirable.

Given the seniority of this role the post holder should have significant experience of successfully conducting research both for academic publication and to support policy development. Engagement with international policy and research networks would be a considerable benefit as would international work experience.
