About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning Engineer to join our Core Engineering team at Pinterest. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and deploying cutting-edge machine learning models that personalize content and improve user engagement across our platform. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including product managers, data scientists, and engineers—to experiment, iterate, and optimize machine learning solutions for various product surfaces such as Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping, and Search. Your work will directly impact the experience of hundreds of millions of users worldwide, helping them discover ideas that inspire and enable them to create a life they love. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with large-scale data, advanced ML techniques, and real-time systems in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2+ years of industry experience applying machine learning methods such as user modeling, personalization, recommender systems, search, ranking, natural language processing, reinforcement learning, and graph representation learning
Hands-on experience with building data processing pipelines and large-scale machine learning systems
Proficiency with big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark
Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala
Experience with deploying ML models into production environments
Ability to analyze and interpret large datasets to inform model development
Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across teams
Preferred: M.S. or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related fields
Preferred: Publications at top ML conferences or recognized contributions to the ML community
Experience with scalable real-time systems processing streaming data is a plus
Passion for applied machine learning and the Pinterest product ecosystem
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement advanced machine learning models to personalize content and improve recommendation quality
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to experiment with new algorithms and optimize existing models for various product surfaces
Build and maintain robust data pipelines and scalable ML systems to handle large datasets efficiently
Leverage data-driven insights to enhance candidate retrieval and ranking mechanisms
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, research papers, and emerging technologies in recommendation systems and machine learning
Deploy models into production environments, monitor their performance, and iterate for continuous improvement
Document methodologies, experiments, and results to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team
Contribute to the development of scalable real-time systems that process streaming data effectively
