AI Research Engineer – Cutting-Edge Cybersecurity Platform

$200-250k basic + Equity

San Francisco

My client is a fast-growing cybersecurity company building the next-generation technology stack for enterprise and defense organizations. Their platform unifies security data and automates critical operations, enhancing defensive capabilities across alert analysis, vulnerability triage, incident response, and more. They are now seeking an AI Research Engineer to help drive their mission forward.

What you’ll do:

Design and build new AI agents for security applications, improving autonomy and effectiveness.
Refine existing agents to enhance performance and scalability.
Develop evaluation systems to measure agent performance and impact.
Apply state-of-the-art AI techniques — including reinforcement learning and LLMs — to novel cybersecurity challenges.
Stay at the forefront of AI research and translate emerging techniques into real-world solutions.
Collaborate across the software stack and play a key role in shaping the company’s research program.

What they’re looking for:

4+ years of engineering experience in production environments.
Proven AI/ML research experience (academic, open-source, or startup).
Strong programming skills in Python, PyTorch, and TypeScript.
Deep understanding of LLMs, transformers, and foundational models.
Familiarity with reinforcement learning is a plus.
A startup mindset: resourceful, ownership-driven, and motivated to build meaningful technology.
