About Us

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive’s next chapter. From operating systems to zonal controllers to cloud and connectivity solutions, we’re addressing the challenges of electric vehicles through technology that will set the standards for software-defined vehicles around the world.

The road to the future is uncharted. By combining our expertise across connectivity, AI, security and more, we’ll map a new way forward. Working together, we’ll create a future that’s more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.

Role Summary

RV Tech Enterprise IT is rapidly scaling its infrastructure across sites, cloud, and remote work. As we grow, cybersecurity has to be foundational ― protecting our systems, data, applications, and people is non-negotiable.

We’re entering a period of major security investments and modernization. We will engage external providers for much of the execution, but we need a Senior Manager, Cybersecurity to own strategy, architecture, quality, and delivery. You will be the technical brain, ensuring everything is done right, even if others do the heavy lifting.

As Senior Manager, Cybersecurity, you will lead RV Tech's full cybersecurity engineering program. You'll set the direction, define standards, guide implementations, and oversee external partner work to ensure our security posture stays strong. You will also handle risk-management, compliance, incident response, budgeting, and cost forecasting.

You’ll have a rare chance to lead RV Tech’s cybersecurity efforts at a pivotal moment. You’ll set the vision, enforce the standards, and be the quality gatekeeper — making sure all security efforts are not just delivered, but delivered well. If you care as much about how things are done as that they’re done, this is the role for you.

Responsibilities

Define and enforce best practices for cybersecurity engineering, including secure development lifecycle, threat modeling, testing, operational controls.
Own the security architecture: design, review, validate all major security implementations (cloud, network, applications).
Collaborate with external service providers: review their designs, monitor their delivery, ensure quality, and verify alignment with RV Tech’s requirements.
Lead risk assessments, vulnerability management, and routine audit/pen testing programs.
Oversee incident detection & response, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement.
Establish policies, standards, and governance for security practices.
Drive adoption of modern security tools and practices: SIEM, EDR, PAM, identity & access management, least-privilege, zero trust, etc.
Manage the cybersecurity budget: forecast costs, track spend, ensure efficient use of resources.
Partner with legal, compliance, IT, infrastructure, and business teams to align security with business goals.
Report on cybersecurity posture, metrics, risks, and investments to senior leadership.

Qualifications

8+ years of cybersecurity experience, including strong technical hands-on background.
Prior leadership in cybersecurity, especially in building/overseeing security programs, engineering teams or external partners.
Deep expertise in at least several of these: identity & access management, cloud security, application security, network security, incident response.
Experience reviewing and validating vendor/external partner work.
Strong experience in risk, compliance, audits, and penetration testing.
Experience with security tooling: SIEM, EDR, PAM, etc.
Proven ability to own and manage budgets, cost forecasting, and vendor financials.
Excellent communicator; able to articulate risk, technical tradeoffs, and strategy to leadership and cross-functional teams.
Relevant certifications preferred (CISSP, CISM, etc.), and a degree in CS, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience.

Salary Range for Palo Alto, California based applicants: Base salary of $213000 - $266,300 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
