Job Specifications

Contract Length: 12 months

Focus: Feature Development & Support (GraphQL Sports APIs / API migration support)

Tech: Java or Kotlin, API development, GraphQL, Linux, relational DBs

Primary Responsibilities

Develop new features and perform bug fixes for GraphQL Sports APIs.
Support migration from a legacy system to the new Graphite API platform.
Identify and fill data gaps between legacy and new systems.
Participate in the full development lifecycle: coding, testing, debugging, deployment.
Write and maintain unit tests for all code produced.
Debug data ingestion issues; collaborate with ingestion and front-end engineering teams.
Participate in code reviews (both providing and receiving feedback).
Attend stand-ups and cross-functional status meetings.

Key Projects / Initiatives

Support end-of-life legacy sports APIs.
Ensure GraphQL APIs for Yahoo Sports integrate fully into redesigned web and cross-platform experiences.
Confirm data accuracy/quality as systems transition to Graphite.

Success Metrics

On-time completion of assigned deliverables.
High-quality, thoroughly tested, maintainable code.
Clear communication with internal partners and strong documentation.

Ideal Candidate Profile

6+ years of API development experience.
Strong backend engineering fundamentals.
Experience with Java or Kotlin.
Relational database expertise.
Linux experience (required).
Able to reason through code design decisions in interviews.
Experience or interest in sports data is a plus.
Degree helpful but not required.
Backend-only focus (full stack okay if strong backend).
