About The Role
Empire Life is seeking a talented Software Developer to join our Back Office Development team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to the development and enhancement of core back-end applications that support the company's operational infrastructure. The Software Developer will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions that drive efficiency and improve service delivery. This position is remote, allowing candidates from anywhere in Canada to participate and collaborate with a dynamic team dedicated to technological excellence and innovation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education, skills, and experience to succeed in this role. A university degree, college diploma, technical training, or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, or related fields is required. Candidates should have at least one year of practical work experience in back-office software development, including internships or co-op placements. Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Kotlin, Java, or C# is essential. Familiarity with database schema design, SQL querying, and REST API development is also necessary. Experience working with cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar providers, as well as knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka), will be considered assets. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are vital, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within agile teams. Fluency in English is required for communication across Canada.
Responsibilities
Develop, test, and deploy high-quality, production-ready back-end applications that meet business requirements and industry standards.
Lead the delivery of new and existing software solutions, collaborating closely with infrastructure, security, and operations teams to ensure seamless deployment and performance.
Contribute to automated testing frameworks, including unit, functional, and behavioral testing, to maintain code quality and reliability.
Proactively monitor applications and services, working with network and security teams to identify and resolve issues promptly.
Troubleshoot technical problems, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions to ensure system stability and performance.
Research emerging technologies and industry trends, providing recommendations to improve existing systems and processes.
Mentor team members, facilitate problem-solving discussions, and support the team in overcoming technical challenges.
Participate in architecture design discussions and collaborate with Solution Architecture teams to develop scalable and maintainable solutions.
Contribute to process improvements through data-driven decision-making and best practices adoption.
Stay informed about relevant technological advancements and industry changes that could impact the company's operations and strategic initiatives.
