Cititec have partnered with a leading business who is looking for an Automation & Observability Engineer to support and advance automation efforts while designing and implementing observability and alerting capabilities in line with the firm’s data protection strategy.

You will partner with internal stakeholders to assess and improve the resilience of the data protection platform. This could involve addressing root causes through automation, strengthening monitoring and alerting to reduce recovery times, or applying a blended approach. Close collaboration with operations teams will be key to understanding day-to-day challenges and delivering robust, scalable solutions.

The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in modern automation and observability tooling, alongside the flexibility to work with legacy environments when required. You will be comfortable navigating unclear requirements, providing guidance to stakeholders, and explaining complex technical topics in a clear and pragmatic way. Exposure to backup or storage technologies would be beneficial, but is not mandatory.

Required Skills

Proven ability to analyse, clarify, and shape loosely defined requirements
Strong Python development skills; knowledge of Perl and/or PowerShell is advantageous
Experience using Git and building CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins)
Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Cortex
Extensive experience with Ansible automation
Solid understanding of RESTful APIs
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
