We’re partnering with a well-regarded IT services firm that delivers digital transformation solutions to public sector clients. They’re looking to onboard a permanent User Researcher with experience working in GDS-aligned environments.

Location: Remote-first, occasional travel to client locations

Salary: Up to £55,000 per year + benefits

Security Clearance: Active SC clearance required

Key Requirement: Familiarity with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and practices

The Role

As a User Researcher, you’ll be central to uncovering the needs and behaviours of end-users and ensuring digital services are designed with them in mind. You’ll collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver actionable insights that shape inclusive and effective user experiences.

Responsibilities

Design and lead research activities throughout the project lifecycle — from discovery to implementation
Choose and apply the most effective research techniques (e.g., interviews, usability testing, surveys, diary studies) based on the context
Generate and present insights that support evidence-based decision-making in agile delivery teams
Engage with stakeholders to align research goals with user and business needs
Facilitate workshops and synthesis sessions to promote empathy and user understanding within delivery teams
Analyse both qualitative and quantitative data to inform product or service improvements
Work closely with other researchers, designers, product owners, and developers
Champion user-centred practices across the organisation and help embed research into delivery processes

Required Experience

Proven experience conducting user research across different delivery phases
Solid understanding of GDS standards and how they influence service design
Ability to work independently as a lead researcher within agile teams
Skilled in selecting and applying appropriate research methodologies
Comfortable communicating research findings through storytelling and visualisation
Familiar with tools used for in-person and remote research, and experience testing concepts using prototypes
Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills

This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact by shaping user-focused digital services in the public sector.
