About this job:

Duration: 12 months (Inside IR35)

Location: Newcastle, hybrid working with three days onsite per week

Hours: 35 hours per week

Rate: £44.85 per hour PAYE or £60 per hour Umbrella

Overview:

An experienced Software Engineer is required to join an Agile Scrum team delivering modern, cloud based geospatial software. This role offers the opportunity to work in a contemporary engineering environment, using up to date cloud technologies to build high impact, scalable solutions within a secure and regulated domain.

The Role:

You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through to testing, code review, and delivery. Working closely with engineers, testers, and product team members, you will play an active role in sprint planning, daily stand ups, and reviews while helping to maintain high engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop clean, maintainable, high quality Java code
Design, build, and maintain cloud based services
Write unit tests and contribute to automated test coverage
Participate in design discussions and code reviews
Collaborate within an Agile Scrum team to achieve sprint objectives
Produce clear documentation and share knowledge across the team

Essential Skills and Experience:

Strong commercial experience with Java
Experience developing cloud based services
Solid understanding of unit testing and software quality practices
Comfortable working in Agile delivery environments

Desirable Skills:

Experience with DevSecOps tooling such as Tekton, ArgoCD, or SonarQube
Knowledge of container platforms such as Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift
Familiarity with the Quarkus framework
Front end development experience using Angular
