Senior User Researcher - AI Transformation

6-month contract | Inside IR35 | £650 p/d

London Hybrid

We're supporting a major UK Government department looking for an experienced Senior User Researcher to drive user-centred design for new AI-enabled services. You'll work closely with delivery, policy and technology teams to ensure solutions are simple, effective and genuinely meet user needs.

What you'll be doing:

Engaging across central government and the wider public sector to influence and improve AI and digital standards
Independently planning and delivering end-to-end user research in complex, uncertain spaces
Selecting and applying the right qualitative and quantitative methods for the context
Turning research into clear stories, insights, and actionable recommendations
Communicating confidently with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and disciplines
Championing user-centred practice and embedding it into agile ways of working

What you'll bring:

Previous experience working in a government department (essential)
Experience engaging across multiple organisations or business units
Ability to self-drive, plan work independently, and deliver at pace
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Broad research experience across different project types (policy, standards, services)
Solid grounding in qualitative and quantitative user research
Interest in or exposure to AI-driven change
