Director of Data & AI

Overview
Our market-leading financial services client is looking to appoint a strategic and forward-thinking Director of Artificial Intelligence & Enterprise Data Strategy to shape how advanced technology and data capability drive the next stage of its transformation journey.
This executive-level role will define the bank’s data and AI vision, setting the direction for enterprise-wide data strategy, governance, and AI adoption. You’ll influence strategy at Board level while leading a small, expert team that works across digital, transformation, and technology functions to strengthen data culture, governance, and business alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Define and execute the organisation’s AI and enterprise data strategy, aligning it to strategic, regulatory, and operational objectives
Set the vision and standards for enterprise data architecture, enabling scalable analytics, automation, and innovation
Lead adoption of artificial intelligence and machine-learning capabilities — including emerging generative and agentic AI applications — to enhance resilience, efficiency, and customer outcomes
Establish a responsible and ethical AI framework, ensuring transparency, fairness, governance, and regulatory compliance
Partner with technology, digital, and transformation leaders to ensure data is accessible and actionable across the business, promoting greater self-service, data democratisation, and data literacy
Shape the data and AI operating model to ensure capability, accountability, and ownership are embedded across business and technology teams
Build and develop a multi-disciplinary data and AI team, fostering collaboration and a culture of continuous improvement
Champion the cultural shift toward enterprise-wide data enablement and insight-led decision-making
What we’re looking for
Proven track record in data, analytics, or AI leadership at senior leadership level (e.g. Head of, Director, VP, Chief), ideally within financial services or another highly regulated industry
Experience designing and executing enterprise data strategies that deliver measurable business outcomes
Expertise across data architecture, governance, automation, and applied AI
Strong understanding of organisational design, operating model change, risk, compliance, and operational resilience frameworks in a regulated environment
Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to non-technical executives and Boards
Demonstrated success in building teams and driving cultural adoption of data-driven transformation
