Job Title: AI Governance Professional / AI Governance Specialist

Department: Technology / Data & AI / Risk & Compliance

Role Overview

The AI Governance Professional is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining frameworks, policies, and controls to ensure the responsible, ethical, compliant, and secure use of Artificial Intelligence across the organization. This role works closely with data science, legal, security, compliance, and business teams to ensure AI systems align with regulatory requirements, organizational risk appetite, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Governance Frameworks & Policy Development

Develop and maintain AI governance frameworks, ethical guidelines, and operational standards.
Establish processes for AI model lifecycle governance—design, development, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retirement.
Create and maintain documentation such as Model Risk Management (MRM) frameworks and Responsible AI guidelines.

2. Risk Management & Compliance

Identify, assess, and mitigate AI-related risks including bias, fairness, security, transparency, and privacy.
Ensure compliance with global AI regulations (e.g., EU AI Act, US AI Executive Order, ISO/IEC 42001).
Conduct risk assessments, impact assessments (AI RIA), and bias audits.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with legal, privacy, data science, engineering, HR, and security teams to embed governance practices into workflows.
Serve as a subject matter expert for AI governance in internal committees or steering groups.

4. Monitoring & Reporting

Oversee continuous monitoring of AI systems for performance, drift, risk, and compliance.
Define KPIs and dashboards for model health, fairness, transparency, and operational efficiency.
Report governance metrics to leadership and regulatory bodies (if required).

5. Training & Awareness

Develop and deliver training on responsible AI practices, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Promote an organizational culture of safe, ethical, and compliant AI usage.

6. Incident Management

Assist in establishing and managing AI incident response processes.
Investigate governance-related issues, breaches, or model failures and recommend corrective actions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical / Domain Skills

Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, model lifecycle, and data principles.
Knowledge of AI regulations, standards, and frameworks such as:
EU AI Act
ISO/IEC 42001 (AI Management System)
NIST AI Risk Management Framework
Model Risk Management (e.g., SR 11-7 for banks)
Familiarity with data governance, cybersecurity fundamentals, and privacy (GDPR, DPDP Act, HIPAA depending on industry).

Professional Skills

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong analytical, auditing, and documentation abilities.
Ability to translate technical concepts into policy and business language.
Experience in risk management, compliance, or technology governance.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Law, Public Policy, Information Security, or related field.
Certifications (preferred):
Responsible AI / AI Ethics certifications
ISO/IEC 42001 Practitioner
Data governance or privacy certifications (e.g., CDMP, CIPP)

Experience

3–10+ years of experience in governance, risk, compliance, AI/ML, or related fields.
Experience working with cross-functional teams in technology-driven environments.
Prior exposure to Responsible AI frameworks is a strong plus.
