We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, UK-based organisation for a Lead IT Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of their infrastructure estate and lead the delivery of a hybrid Microsoft Azure migration.

This is a hands-on senior technical role for an experienced infrastructure professional who can design, build and operate infrastructure across cloud, hybrid and on-prem environments, while providing technical leadership within the IT team.

The role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the end-to-end design, build and ongoing optimisation of the organisation’s infrastructure services. You will play a central role in migrating core systems from on-premises to Azure and ensuring the environment is secure, resilient and aligned with best practice.

Key responsibilities

Lead the design and hands-on delivery of a hybrid Azure infrastructure
Execute and own the migration from on-premises to Microsoft Azure
Manage and optimise infrastructure across networking, compute, storage, identity, backup, DR and monitoring
Strengthen infrastructure security and resilience, including patching, vulnerability management and hardening
Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and security incidents
Maintain infrastructure standards, documentation and operational runbooks
Work closely with internal stakeholders to deliver the infrastructure roadmap
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to infrastructure engineers

Candidate profile

10+ years’ experience in infrastructure engineering, including senior or lead-level responsibility
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid environments
Proven experience delivering on-prem to Azure migrations
Broad infrastructure background covering Windows Server, virtualisation, networking and storage
Solid understanding of infrastructure security controls such as MFA, Conditional Access and vulnerability management
Confident communicator, able to take ownership and lead technical delivery
