Job Title: Engineer 2 (Backend)

Location: 1600 7th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101 (Onsite)

Duration: 11-month contract (with possible extension)

Shift Timings: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (PST)

Start Date: Targeting Feb 2026

Pay Rate: $59.85/hr. to 66.90/hr. on W2

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision.

Job Description:

Engineer 2 is part of a key team of *** Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability at this level supports applications, services, infrastructure, and operational components, with minimal supervision.
As a Software Development Engineer 2 on our team, you will work closely with Product, Program, and Engineering to design, develop and implement the solution that delights our restaurant customers.
Our goal is to provide a robust experience for our restaurant employees. You will work closely with engineering teams and rollout out the new point-of-sale system, labor management tool across all the Nordstrom restaurant concepts.

A day in the life…

Plan and develop robust, maintainable, reusable code for managing functionality, configuration, deployment, monitoring, performance, scalability, availability, security, and alerting for software test, integration, and production environments.
Develop, maintain, and enhance automated test cases and deployment procedures.
Design, prototype, and build: you will be hands on, show delivery mentality and lead by example.
Understand the Business/Stakeholder/Technical requirements and assist in analyzing the existing solutions to address the needs.
Assist in creation of simple, modular, extensible functional design for the product/solution in adherence to the requirements.
Assess gaps/ updates/ modifications between the customer/business expectations and the existing product/solutions.
Analyze defects from past projects/solutions to avoid recurrence of similar defects.
Lead and enforce *** / industry engineering standards, contribute towards their continuous improvement and be active in the community of practice.
You will be expected to display an operational mindset, support, and ensure reliability of the solution and systems under your purview.
Think of the customer (other engineering teams and business users) and how they will use the features you develop, have a customer focused mentality.
Think deeply about the underlying system that is running your code, test driven development that prioritizes quality.

You own this if you have…

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in an engineering discipline, preferably computer science, or equivalent
4+ years professional experience in delivering quality software, ideally across the full stack Proficient in developing reliable and scalable solutions
Excellent proficiency in Object-Oriented language, such as Java
Proven track record in Java and Java Spring boot framework
Experience with RESTful architecture and micro-services
Experience with cloud-based services will be a plus (AWS/GCP)
Experience with modern infrastructure tools and pipelines (Github CI/CD, Terraform)
Familiarity with ops tools, logging, and metrics (New Relic, Splunk)
Experience with messaging technologies and patterns (Kafka/SQS)
Test automation experience at all levels (Unit, Integration, Regression, Load)
Good communication skills (verbal and written)
