Founded in 1981 and based in Brussels, European Aluminium is member-based association representing Europe’s most complete and thriving metals value chain. Our 100+ members, representing more than 600 plants in 30 European countries, include primary aluminium producers, downstream manufacturers of extruded, rolled and cast aluminium, producers of recycled aluminium and national aluminium associations.
The new Construction Products Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 (CPR-2024) entered into force in January 2025, laying down new harmonised rules for the marketing of construction products in the European internal market. European Aluminium is actively contributing to shaping future harmonised standards for aluminium construction products such as windows, doors, curtain walling, roofing and cladding systems falling under the scope of the CPR-2024.
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled individual to join us on this adventure and support us in standardisation activities for aluminium construction products as well as for the overall standardisation environment that sets the basis for designation of aluminium alloys at EN and ISO level. Description
Reporting to the Director – Building and Standards, the Technical Standardisation Assistant will support the development of EN and ISO standards, primarily within the aluminium construction sector. The Technical Standardisation Assistant will also help the Building Team advancing in projects that promote aluminium-based solutions. This role offers hands-on experience in gaining deep knowledge about the aluminium industry, translating complex regulatory requirements into technical standards for the aluminium construction sector.
Tasks
This is a non-exhaustive list of tasks, which could be adapted or expanded based on the priorities of the association.
Identify opportunities and threats through the mapping of technical specifications such as EN and ISO standards
Support in the development of EN and ISO standards with technical input gathered from our Member companies
Support in advocating in the relevant technical committees of European and International standardisation bodies (CEN, EOTA, ISO)
Support in projects, like tests, simulation or desk research
Develop material for Members’ guidance and education
Develop material for external communication about aluminium construction products
Experience And Skills
The candidate should be recently graduated with a master’s degree in civil, construction engineering or any other relevant field (students who are about to conclude their studies with a master’s thesis are also welcome to apply);
Excellent organisational skills and eye for detail;
Able to work independently as well as part of a team;
Proactive and responsive with the ability to quickly understand tasks and situations;
Strong research skills;
Be fluent in both written and spoken English and have good knowledge of at least one other EU language;
Studies/knowledge of EU environment legislation such as the Construction Products Regulation, Energy Performance of Buildings Directive or Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation will be considered a plus.
