IBM AIX Server Administrator (Hybrid, Warwick/Birmingham)

Location: Warwick or Birmingham (Hybrid, 1–2 days WFO)

Contract Duration: 1 year, renewable

Industry: Health

Travel: On-site presence required in Warwick during the initial transition phase; travel expenses covered.

Project Overview

The project focuses on a critical transition from the current vendor to a newly onboarded team of senior technical specialists. The transition involves:

Knowledge transfer from the existing offshore team
Environment discovery and stabilization
Ensuring continuity and minimal service disruption

Immediate joiners are required due to the urgency and complexity of the transition.

Team Structure

Current operational team is offshore with limited technical skills for this transition.
The incoming senior team will lead handovers, workshops, and stabilization activities.

Work Mode & Access

Initial Phase: On-site presence at Warwick during key activities (environment discovery, system walkthroughs, workshops).
Post-Transition: Hybrid work from Warwick or Birmingham (1–2 days on-site weekly).

Job Title

IBM AIX Server Administrator

Technical Expertise

IBM AIX OS administration (10+ years)
PowerVM, HMC, LPM, NPIV, SAN storage integration
PowerHA clustering and disaster recovery
Experience with IBM hardware is a strong plus
Scripting for automation: UNIX Shell, Perl, Python

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain AIX servers and LPARs
Manage VIO servers, NIM deployments, PowerVM virtualization
Apply OS patches, firmware updates, and perform security hardening
Monitor system health, tune performance, and manage capacity planning
Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues
Implement backup solutions and disaster recovery plans; participate in DR drills
Configure and manage PowerHA SystemMirror clusters
Work with SAN storage (NPIV), PowerVC, and other virtualization technologies
Perform hardware/firmware upgrades, refreshes, and migrations
Ensure ITIL compliance and maintain security standards
