Principal Security Architect

Up to £125,000 + Benefits • 4 days onsite (London, Paddington)

I am working with a fast‑growing payments technology business looking for a Principal Security Architect to become the most senior architect in their organisation. This is a strategic backfill hire, joining a small but growing team alongside two junior/mid‑level architects.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in fast‑paced, cloud‑native environments and enjoys shaping architectural direction without rigid processes. You’ll collaborate closely with the Product Security team and play a key role in designing secure foundations for new products, customer applications and payments technologies. Current programmes include a major Salesforce implementation and several high-impact product initiatives.

What you’ll do

Lead security architecture across a fully cloud‑based, multi‑cloud estate (AWS, Azure and GCP).
Define and evolve secure architectural patterns for new software builds and product features.
Perform high-impact threat modelling and architecture reviews across customer apps and payments systems.
Partner with Product Security and Engineering to embed secure-by-design principles.
Influence and coach junior/mid-level architects, providing senior technical direction (no line management).
Build lightweight processes where needed and introduce structure without slowing delivery.
Work cross-functionally across the business - comfortable seeking answers and building relationships.

What you’ll bring

Extensive experience in cloud security architecture within AWS, Azure and/or GCP.
Strong background in security consulting or advisory roles.
Experience guiding engineering teams in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
Strong communication style - collaborative, approachable and low‑ego.
Comfortable influencing without authority, and confident engaging teams across the organisation.
Ability to operate with autonomy and introduce pragmatic security processes.
