Job Title: Quality Engineer – Supplier / Incoming Quality
Location: Lafayette, IN
Work Arrangement: On?site, full time
Shift: Train on day shift, then transition to 3rd shift (10:00 PM – 6:00 AM)
Employment Type: Contract (W2)
Compensation: $35–$37/hour (W2)

Duration: 6 months, with strong potential for extension or conversion
About The Role
We are seeking a Quality Engineer to support supplier and internal quality operations in a high?volume manufacturing environment. This role focuses on reviewing and dispositioning nonconforming material that may still be functionally acceptable, helping to protect production uptime while ensuring compliance to engineering and quality standards.
This position serves as a key cross?functional link between quality, engineering, and operations. The individual in this role will review parts and drawings, assess risk, and bring together the appropriate stakeholders to determine next steps. It is an excellent opportunity for early?career engineers or quality professionals looking to gain hands?on experience in a complex manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
Review nonconforming parts and determine appropriate disposition, including scrap, rework, or deviation
Evaluate work pieces against engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards
Lead cross?functional discussions involving engineering, design, quality, and operations
Serve as the primary point of contact for deviation and nonconformance decisions
Coordinate containment activities such as sorting and rework to minimize production impact
Collect, analyze, and present quality data to support decision?making
Document findings, decisions, and corrective actions clearly and accurately
Support problem?solving and continuous improvement activities
Communicate effectively with both shop floor personnel and leadership
Work Environment
This role is approximately 85% office?based and 25% on the shop floor. Regular interaction with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and supplier teams is expected. Steel?toed shoes are required.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong understanding of engineering drawings; GD&T preferred
Ability to collect and analyze data in a meaningful way using Excel; Minitab is a plus
Blueprint reading and familiarity with gages and measurement tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to remain calm and effective in time?sensitive situations
Willingness to learn and maintain a positive, collaborative attitude
Education & Experience Guidelines
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree are considered with 0–2 years of relevant experience. Candidates with an associate’s degree or high school diploma are considered with 2–4 years of relevant manufacturing or quality experience. Internship experience is accepted. Candidates with a master’s degree are considered overqualified for this role.
Entry?level candidates and recent graduates with a solid grasp of engineering fundamentals, drawings, and GD&T are encouraged to apply.
