OUR STORY:

Join Scaleway and shape the sovereign cloud of tomorrow !

Since 1999, we have been designing secure, sustainable infrastructures aimed at supporting the most ambitious companies.

Historically known for our dedicated servers (Dedibox), we made a strategic shift to cloud computing in 2015. Staying true to our principles of simplicity, flexibility, and technical excellence, we have become one of the leading players in Europe in the sector.

With the rise of artificial intelligence, we have strengthened our commitment, supported by the Iliad Group, which is investing €3 billion to develop a serious, sovereign AI alternative to American and Asian giants.

Every day, thanks to our fast-growing portfolio of cloud and AI products (bare metal, containerization, serverless, AI, etc.), Scaleway proudly serves thousands of customer across the private and public sector, from corporations like France Télévisions or Hachette Livre, to fast-growing startups like Photoroom and Biolevate, to institutions like the City of Copenhagen.

Our offices are located in Paris, Lille, Toulouse, Rennes, Rouen, Bordeaux and Lyon.

WHY WE NEED YOU ?

Scaleway’s engineering velocity is accelerating, and our Developer Tools ecosystem needs a strong, technically versatile Tech Lead to guide its next phase of growth.

Your mission: elevate our DevTools, support multiple engineering tribes, guarantee high software quality, and ensure an excellent Developer Experience across all our tools (CLI, Terraform provider, SDKs, automation tools…).

This role sits at the crossroads of engineering, developer experience, community interactions, and technical leadership.

You won’t manage infrastructure or on-call operations — instead, you will drive software quality, mentoring, architecture, tooling, code reviews, and developer success at scale.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM :

You will join a team composed of:

1 Engineering Manager (your direct manager: Rémy Léone), responsible for strategic alignment, team development, and ensuring you have the autonomy and context needed to succeed.

5 highly skilled Individual Contributors, each with their own domain of expertise, ranging from Go development to Terraform ecosystem mastery, internal tooling, SDKs, and CLI engineering.

Team rituals include daily syncs, heavy collaboration around code reviews, and continuous improvement loops. The culture is kind, autonomous, supportive, with a strong appetite for craftsmanship. Work environment: no on-call, no production environments, no ops stress — pure software engineering, developer experience, and tooling.

YOUR DAILY ROUTINE :

Technical Leadership

Drive architectural decisions and ensure high-quality implementation across DevTools.

Perform a large volume of code reviews daily; guide contributors across multiple tribes.

Maintain a long-term vision for the Developer Experience and internal tooling ecosystem.

Lead refactoring initiatives to maintain code quality, sustainability, and consistency.

Community & Cross-Team Collaboration

Support multiple engineering tribes despite not having direct authority—using persuasion, pedagogy, and strong technical reasoning.

Contribute to upstream open-source projects when relevant.

Act as an ambassador for DevTools standards, quality, and best practices.

Knowledge Sharing & Coaching

Mentor junior and mid-level engineers (onboarding, teaching sessions, pair programming).

Document practices, tooling behavior, APIs, and workflows.

Support developers internally and externally.

Tooling & Development

Contribute directly to key engineering tools:

Scaleway CLI

Terraform provider

Internal SDK tooling

Terminal-based utilities (TUI / shell tools)

Ensure all tools work seamlessly across languages, OS, and developer environments.

Maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and developer workflows.

ABOUT YOU:

Hard Skills
You have experience in:

Software development (5+ years) across multiple languages:

Go, Python, TypeScript, Shell (bash/zsh/fish/powershell)

Using and/or maintaining devtools, ideally for cloud platforms
Terraform provider development or contribution (major plus)
Protobuf, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Ansible, Terraform
Deep empathy for developer workflows and the terminal experience
Working across multiple teams and navigating influence without authority

Soft Skills
This role requires:

Strong mentoring ability and pedagogical mindset
Excellent written & spoken English (blocking if not solid)
Diplomacy, empathy, and genuine interest in supporting developers
High autonomy and ownership
Curiosity, continuous learning, and technical watchfulness
Adaptability to fast-changing tooling and user behaviors

WHAT YOU WILL FIND AT SCALEWAY ++++

Hybrid Work: We offer up to 3 days of remote work per week.

Offices: Our offices are spacious, dynamic workspaces with bold design, conveniently located near public transport. Most of our offices feature outdoor spaces (terraces) and bike parking facilit
