Senior Robotics & System Integration Engineer – Hybrid (San Francisco, CA)

About the job

Edison is seeking a Senior Robotics & System Integration Engineer to join a leading robotics client developing AI-powered autonomous industrial vehicles. This is a hands-on role focused on integrating, optimising, and deploying autonomous vehicle systems in real-world industrial environments, from warehouses to factories.

This is a hybrid contract opportunity based in San Francisco, CA, offering $140–160 per hour for an initial 6-month engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimise robotics software using C++ and ROS/ROS2
Process and fuse high-bandwidth sensor data from LiDAR, cameras, and IMUs for AI-driven perception
Integrate and maintain vehicle hardware, CAN networks, and real-time control systems
Develop system provisioning, containerised environments, and automated testing pipelines
Optimise system performance and troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, software, and network layers
Collaborate across perception, localization, control, and AI teams to improve autonomy
Contribute to deployment pipelines, CI/CD, and configuration management
Maintain clear documentation for system architecture, integration procedures, and operational workflows

Required Experience

5+ years’ professional experience in robotics software development or system integration
Strong proficiency in ROS/ROS2, Linux-based systems, C++, Python, and shell scripting
Experience with AI/ML-enabled robotics and real-time system optimisation
Knowledge of CAN protocols, firmware integration, and vehicle hardware-software interfacing
Familiarity with container technologies and system automation/configuration tools
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug across software and hardware domains
Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
