Role Overview

The Infrastructure & Security Engineer is responsible for the overall management, security, stability, and strategic development of the organisation’s IT infrastructure landscape across 590+ sites.

This role combines technical leadership, hands-on engineering, cyber security governance, vendor management, and financial oversight to ensure high availability, resilience, and compliance across all business-critical systems.

The position operates within a complex multi-site environment, supporting both internal teams and external partners while maintaining strict control over infrastructure, security, and change management processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Infrastructure & Operations Management

Manage, secure, and control the complete IT technical infrastructure estate (LAN, WAN, Cloud, Datacentre).
Ensure maximum system availability across all offices and production sites.
Provide support, maintenance, and development of infrastructure including:
Patching and firmware management
Operating system and application deployment
Configuration management and updates
User provisioning
Switching, routing, firewall administration
Datacentre management including installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of servers and networking equipment.
Design and implement new network solutions and optimise existing infrastructure.
Monitor performance to ensure capacity and performance requirements are consistently met.
Participate in 24/7 on-call support for complex and business-critical systems.

2. Leadership & Internal Team Management

Provide day-to-day supervision and technical guidance to Infrastructure and System Engineering teams.
Act in a hands-on capacity where necessary.
Mentor and develop system engineers to ensure SLA adherence.
Work closely with Project Management to ensure smooth delivery and handover of infrastructure changes.
Provide 3rd line support to Desktop Services, IT Store Support, and other internal teams.
Provide 1st line out-of-hours support when required.

3. Vendor & External Partner Management

Act as primary technical contact for key infrastructure partners and service providers.
Manage third-party vendors including:
Service availability
SLA performance
Change requests
Hardware and software maintenance
Escalate and propose alternative technical solutions to the IT Director when required.
Ensure service providers meet contractual and performance obligations.

4. Cyber Security & Governance

Implement and enforce corporate IT security policies and governance standards.
Act as Information Security Officer for the organisation.
Maintain and develop the corporate risk register with appropriate mitigation strategies.
Lead internal and external security audits.
Ensure compliance with Parent Company IT policies and governance standards.
Maintain secure access control and ensure change management processes prevent security breaches.
Respond to suspicious events in accordance with Business Resilience policies.

5. Change & Availability Management

Own and develop Service Level Agreements (SLAs) across infrastructure services.
Ensure monitoring systems are in place to guarantee SLA compliance.
Act as guardian of change management processes, ensuring no uncontrolled change failures.
Take responsibility for decision-making in the event of business-critical system failure (with notification to IT Director).
Manage housekeeping activities including:
Backup procedures
System monitoring
Planned system downtime
Formally document and maintain the IT Disaster Recovery Plan (IT DRP).

6. Cloud & Systems Strategy

Manage the organisation’s Cloud environment and strategic roadmap.
Review existing systems and propose improvements aligned with current and future business requirements.
Assist in scoping new solutions and preparing detailed proposals including budget forecasts.
Present technical and financial proposals to senior management.

7. Financial & Budget Responsibility

Provide forward-looking infrastructure budget forecasts aligned with business needs.
Deliver monthly budget versus actual expenditure reports to the IT Director.
Monitor project ROI post-approval.
Advise on hardware investments and partner onboarding/offboarding from a financial and operational perspective.

Deliver robust monitoring frameworks to support performance and availability.

Deliver a secure, compliant IT estate aligned with corporate governance.
Maintain full audit readiness.
Ensure no security breaches due to process failure.

Change Management

Ensure all infrastructure and system changes are controlled and secure.
Deliver zero critical outages caused by unmanaged change.
