Job Specifications
Senior VMware Cloud & Network Virtualization Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for a senior-level VMware specialist to augment an existing internal VMware team. This is not a generalist VMware role — we need demonstrated, hands-on depth in the VMware Cloud Services Platform and its integration with NSX. You will own the architecture, implementation, and operational governance of our VCS/NSX environment and serve as the internal subject matter expert on cloud networking and security policy.
What You'll Do
Design, deploy, and operate VMware Cloud Services environments including VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution (AVS), or Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE)
Architect and manage NSX-T/NSX-V to NSX-T migrations, overlay networking, and micro-segmentation policies within VCS environments
Own the integration layer between VCS and NSX — including logical switching, distributed routing, gateway firewalls, and load balancing services
Define and enforce network security policy using NSX Distributed Firewall (DFW) and Gateway Firewall in cloud-connected topologies
Support hybrid cloud connectivity (Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, or equivalent) bridging on-premises vSphere environments to VCS
Collaborate with internal VMware engineers on escalations, architecture reviews, and knowledge transfer
Evaluate and implement VCS-native services: VMware HCX for workload migration, vRealize/Aria integration, and NSX Advanced Load Balancer (Avi)
Produce architecture documentation, runbooks, and policy standards
Required Qualifications
5+ years of VMware infrastructure experience overall
3+ years of hands-on VMware Cloud Services experience (VMware Cloud on AWS, AVS, or GCVE — not just on-premises vSphere)
Demonstrated NSX-T expertise — logical networking, micro-segmentation, DFW rule design, BGP/routing within NSX, and Tier-0/Tier-1 gateway configuration
Direct experience integrating NSX with a VCS platform (not just standalone NSX in a private data center)
Experience with VMware HCX for live workload migration across environments
Solid understanding of overlay networking concepts: GENEVE encapsulation, VTEP configuration, and transport zones
Familiarity with cloud provider networking constructs (AWS VPC, Azure VNet, or GCP VPC) as they relate to VCS connectivity
Preferred Qualifications
VMware certifications: VCP-NV, VCAP-NV, or VCP-VMC
Experience with NSX Advanced Load Balancer (Avi Networks)
Exposure to vRealize Network Insight (vRNI) or Aria Operations for Networks for traffic analysis and troubleshooting
Scripting or automation against VMware/NSX APIs (Python, PowerCLI, Terraform + NSX provider)
