Position Title: Network Engineer III (Remote)
Location: Remote near any of these cities: Richmond, VA / Boston, MA / New York City, NY / Philadelphia, PA / Cleveland, OH / Atlanta, GA / Chicago, IL / St. Louis, MO / Minneapolis, MN / Kansas City, MO / Dallas, TX / San Francisco, CA
Clearance Requirements: Must pass 1st and 2nd level background checks
Position Status: 15-month contract with potential extension or full-time conversion
Pay Rate: $70–85/hr W2
Position Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer III with deep expertise in firewalls, network architecture, and automation. This senior-level role involves supporting, configuring, and optimizing enterprise network and security environments, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure robust infrastructure and secure operations. This is a true 40–45 hour/week role, with occasional nights or weekends as needed.
Responsibilities
Develop conceptual, logical, and physical network and security designs that align with business and technical requirements.
Configure, build, stage, and deploy network and firewall infrastructure using automation tools and scripting.
Develop and execute testing strategies, implementation, and migration plans.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and firewall issues, minimizing service interruptions.
Document designs, changes, and infrastructure updates; provide executive-level reporting.
Collaborate with IT teams and stakeholders to develop strategic plans to improve network security.
Drive automation initiatives using Python, Ansible, Puppet, or similar tools.
Lead or participate in complex technical projects and mentor junior staff as needed.
Ensure adherence to internal audit and information security standards.
Required Skills/Education
5+ years of senior-level experience in network engineering or firewall engineering.
Strong experience with Palo Alto and Juniper firewalls (both preferred).
Proficiency in network design, routing, switching, VLANs, TCP/IP, and packet analysis.
Expertise with Linux and Windows Server environments.
Experience with automation and scripting: Python, Ansible, Puppet.
Knowledge of system security controls and best practices.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
Certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, Sec+, CCNP, CEH, or cloud-related (AWS/Azure) preferred.
Must be a U.S. citizen and able to clear 1st and 2nd level background checks.
