Job title: Python Developer Role Summary: Spearhead the modernization of a group‑wide digital platform by migrating a legacy Ruby application to a new Python‑based, cloud‑native architecture. Own the end‑to‑end process from requirement gathering and design to deployment, performance optimisation, and post‑migration enhancements. Expectations: • Assume full ownership of the legacy system, guide its transformation into a scalable, maintainable solution. • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to capture current functionality and emerging needs. • Influence architecture and technology choices, ensuring alignment with best practices in security, testing, and documentation. Key Responsibilities: 1. Engage stakeholders to map existing portal workflows and business requirements. 2. Analyse the Ruby codebase, document behaviours, and identify opportunities for improvement. 3. Design and implement a complete platform rewrite in Python, focusing on scalability, performance, and maintainability. 4. Build and maintain RESTful API integrations with internal and external systems. 5. Containerise applications using Docker and orchestrate deployments on Microsoft Azure. 6. Apply security, testing, and documentation best‑practice throughout the development lifecycle. 7. Participate in architectural reviews and guide technical direction. 8. Lead the transition from legacy to new platform, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity. 9. Deliver continuous enhancements and optimisation after migration. Required Skills: - Proficient in Python (3.x) development, including modern frameworks (FastAPI, Django, or Flask). - Experience with cloud-native services on Azure (App Services, Functions, Container Instances, Kubernetes). - Docker containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure‑as‑code practices. - Design and implementation of RESTful APIs. - Performance tuning, scalability engineering, and system monitoring. - Ability to analyse legacy code and translate requirements into clean architecture. - Strong understanding of software security, automated testing, and technical documentation. - Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and cross‑functional collaboration. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline. - Optional but preferred: Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate or similar cloud certification.
